These natural fire starters can be used to light all types of fire: chimneys, fireplaces, wood-burning stoves, barbecues and braziers. A single stick is all you need to light a fire. Burning time is slow, from 8 to 10 minutes. Use the top-down technique to light the fire. Place the large logs at the bottom of the firebox, then the medium-sized logs, the chestnut kindling and, at the top, a natural woodwool firelighter.

Choose well-dried, NF-certified oak, hornbeam or beech (hardwood species), with a moisture content of less than 20%, to get a good yield and take full advantage of the fire's heat. This type of high-performance wood log emits very little ash and few fine particles. It also has the advantage of reducing clogging of your heating appliances. You can also opt for compressed wood (compressed logs or densified wood), with just one compressed log in the firebox. These two carefully selected types of wood energy have a high calorific value, offer good energy performance and remain an environmentally-friendly heating method.

Your choice of firewood is essential, whether you have an open or closed hearth appliance. The type of heating appliance you use will also have an impact on energy efficiency. An open fireplace will obviously be less efficient.
